Does anyone have an idea why my echeveria’s leaves are splitting like this? I originally had to cut the base off of it because the stem was rotting, so i put it in water to root it, but that was several months ago and it has been doing fine. It is still in water right now and has roots.

Also a tip, when you start seeing the leaves curl downward or start to have a tiny stem it means that the plant need more sunlight. Since echeveria are usually very compact.

Definitely need more light since the plant is reaching for sunlight. And don't let a succulent root in water since this will give more chance for it to rot. Instead let the cut heal for few days and place it in soil, spraying them every few day for roots to form.

Your echeveria needs more light. Besides you shouldn't put it in water to root, the roots created this way are not effective in the soil so the plant has to create new roots once it's repotted. Water therapy is usefull for dehydrated plants (sent in the mail for example).

i think too much water. Do not pour a lot of water when the soil is too dry. Suddenly absorbed too much moisture, the leaves will burst. Cracked leaves are susceptible to bacteria that cause rotting.
